First confirmations for Serielizados Fest 2017

Tony Grisoni, screenwriter of The Young Pope; Justin Webster and Enric Bach, creators of Muerte en León and Javier Olivares, creator of El Ministerio del Tiempo, among the first guests of Serielizados Fest 2017, that will introduce a space dedicated to Twin Peaks.

The 4t edition of the International Series Festival of Barcelona, the Serielizados Fest, will be held from the 19th to the 22nd of April of 2017. This year, the festival widens its capacity and will have the Hall and Auditori of the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona – CCCB, in addition to the Filmoteca de Catalunya, the Fàbrica Moritz Barcelona, the Sala Hiroshima, the Cinema Phenomena and the Auditorium from the Facultat de Comunicació i Relacions Internacionals Blanquerna, for its various events.

The festival will offer an extended program that will feature international television releases, documentaries about TV pop culture, pro sessions, talks, guests and humor shows that will be announced in the following weeks.

Tony Grisoni, screenwriter of the outstanding 2016 show The Young Pope, created by filmmaker Paolo Sorrentino, is one of the first names confirmed to appear in the 4th edition of the Serielizados Fest. Grisoni is also the creator of Southcliffe, one of the darkest and idiosyncratic British TV dramas in recent memory, and a regular screenwriter for Terry Gilliam movies such as Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. Currently, he’s developing Gilliam’s lifetime project The Man Who Killed Don Quixote, an adaptation of Cervantes’ universal classic.

Sala Hiroshima will become, in the afternoon of Wednesday the 19th of April, Sala Twin Peaks. As a starter, Serielizados Fest will devote an evening to screenings, talks and various activities related to  David Lynch’s cult series just one month before its long-awaited new release.

Among the new confirmations also stand Justin Webster and Enric Bach, creators of Muerte en León, one of the best Spanish shows in 2016. These non-fiction series dig up the murder of Isabel Carrasco, President of the Diputation of León for PP, that took place in 2014. A Spanish Making a Murderer. In the Festival, they will participate in a talk dedicated to the non-fiction genre along with Carles Porta, journalist and writer of the best-seller Tor, la muntanya maleïda.

Javier Olivares, creator of El Ministerio del Tiempo and regular collaborator of the Festival, will join us with a surprise related to the new season of the TVE series, and El Fin de la Comedia creators Ignatius Farray, Miguel Esteban and Raúl Navarro will also be welcome back.

The L.A. based producing company Open the Portal will bring to Barcelona The Animation will not be Televised, an explosive show that compiles animation pieces made by North American filmmakers focused in pop culture and TV references from the USA.

Serielizados Fest will also host the stage play El Niño de la Tele, a journey through the life of Rubén Ramírez, a child star who captivated everyone’s hearts by doing impersonations of celebrities and politicians of the time such as José María Aznar on Spanish TV in the 90s. By the time he was 30 he decided to write a play about his rise and fall, released a few months ago at the Sala Flyhard brought to life again for the occasion at the Fàbrica Moritz Barcelona.

Two film cycles will warm the audiences up before the Festival: one, at Cinemes Phenomena, will gather movies based on TV series. The contents of the second one will be released soon, but it will take place at the Filmoteca de Catalunya.

Our section with documentaries about TV pop culture, where films such as Harmontown (European premiere) or Chuck Norris vs. Communism (Spanish premiere) have been screened in the past, will be held in this edition at CCCB, Serielizados Fest’s main venue.

The closing night of the Festival will offer a Late Show at the Fàbrica Moritz Barcelona, with local and national comedians rambling about the world of TV shows. In previous editions it has been hosted by the likes of Ignatius Farray, Roger Coma, El Mundo Today, Álvaro Carmona and Carlo Padial.
