Screening at the Filmoteca de Catalunya of the movie ‘La mafia uccide solo d’estate’, friday the 7th of April.
« – But would the mafia kill us too?
– Don’t worry, it’s winter now… The mafia only kills during the summer.»
With these words, the young lead character’s dad in the film ‘La mafia uccide solo d’estate’ (2013) comforts his son before he goes to bed. Their tone is indicative of how the movie tackles such a delicate subject: by portraying in a light and comedic but incisive manner the relationship between the inhabitants of Sicily in the 70s and the ‘Cosa Nostra’.
The film was a success in Italy because of the way in which its director, screenwriter and main actor Pierfrancesco Diliberto (Pif) combined his childhood memories from Palermo with a shared imagery that looked back in critical nostalgia. Such was its good reception that Rai 1 released in 2016 its TV adaptation, which obtained excellent results. On Friday the 7th of April, it will prove its worth at the Filmoteca de Catalunya.
